Far too many organizations bite off more than they can chew in trying to make their culture more inclusive. They make some proclamations, bring in some training, and then… hmmm, what do we do now? Is anything changing? What was the objective again?

As a young boy, my parents told me there were three topics I should never address with adults - age, religion, and politics.  I'm not quite sure why I was given that directive, but it seemed that every kid I knew got the same lecture.  I think it had something to do with respecting people's privacy and in the 1950s the climate was pretty reserved and many things were kept "close to the vest."

Many years ago I authored an article entitled “Gender Quake” and it was about the Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas hearings – the first time sexual harassment and gender equity issues entered our living rooms (through TV) and never left.
